The Planet Mark team is often approached by our community seeking support around engaging stakeholders in sustainability plans in order to create genuine impact.
Fora, a provider of premium flexible workspaces around the UK and Germany, successfully demonstrates just how accessible a robust sustainability strategy can be. Fora’s sustainability campaign, Members for Change, shows how shared workspace providers can make carbon reporting more visible, practical and useful for the businesses in their buildings.
Businesses operating in shared buildings can easily feel disconnected from their own environmental impact, often disempowered and lacking visibility over data and potential for change.
It was this precise issue that led to the launch of Members for Change in 2024, a campaign designed to engage, motivate and support Fora’s members at different stages of their own sustainability journeys.
Making sustainability visible through carbon reporting
Fora’s members, which include over 2,000 businesses (mostly SMEs) operating in its shared workspaces, had communicated that they wanted more visibility, support, and practical ways to contribute to their businesses impact.
Stella Skye, Sustainability Coordinator at the organisation spearheaded the initiative:
“Working with Planet Mark, we shared more than 2,000 personalised carbon reports with our members, showing each business its share of emissions based on office size and the building’s certified carbon footprint. For many, it was the first time sustainability felt tangible.”
The intention was not to overwhelm its members with data, but to provide visibility, particularly for SMEs who are often overlooked by regulation-led approaches. This prompted constructive questions and more confident conversations between Fora and its residents.
From insight to action
The reports became a starting point for residents to reach out to discuss their individual sustainability journeys, while Fora introduced regular sustainability forums and informal ESG drop-in sessions shaped by member input.
Member feedback also led to practical changes across the portfolio. In response to requests for more sustainable options, Fora worked with on-site cafés to accept reusable mugs, helping reduce single-use cup waste. A portfolio-wide electrical recycling campaign followed, collecting two tonnes of e-waste in partnership with Material Focus, alongside the introduction of volunteering opportunities focused on social impact.
Communicating sustainability differently
Members for Change was delivered through a mix of digital, physical and face-to-face communication. Events and initiatives were promoted through newsletters and targeted emails, while on-site signage and conversations with facilities teams helped bring sustainability into everyday spaces.
Carbon reports were shared one-to-one between members and building managers, creating space for dialogue rather than passive reporting. Fora’s ESG team remained available to support members in understanding and using their data. The aim was not just accuracy, but also understanding, ensuring both technical and non-technical audiences could engage with data.
A significant impact
The effectiveness of this campaign stemmed from its scalability and genuine impact. Fora achieved this by keeping sustainability relevant and workable by grounding its strategy in clear data and everyday actions. Importantly, this campaign was built in close collaboration with members, ensuring the content addressed actual needs and generated meaningful value.
This approach led to impressively high engagement across the Fora community and delivered a discernible uplift in how sustainability is understood and acted upon. In doing so, Fora truly embodied Planet Mark’s values and demonstrated what excellent sustainability leadership can look like within a workspace environment. The campaign went on to win the Sustainability Campaign category at the 2025 Planet Mark Awards.
