A time to reflect and focus on our impact as a collective

Since our launch in 2013, driving positive change has been central to our purpose. Our strategy day provides an opportunity for our team to reconnect with our purpose and vision, and spend much-needed time as a team completing a volunteering activity to extend our positive impact on the local community and environment.

When you see a Planet Mark-certified business, you know it is driving continuous positive change through its actions, people, and reach. As part of our 2023 Strategy Day we visited long-standing member Bywaters at the Bywaters Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to learn more about how they are leading the charge in sustainable waste management, and the actions we can take at home to help.

Sustainable Waste through  Bywaters

Bywaters is a valued member of Planet Mark and has been cutting its carbon footprint annually with us for nearly a decade. In 2021 they achieved an absolute carbon reduction of -12.7%, and contributed £23,041 to social value, and 8 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with our business certification.

Bywaters is the UK’s most sustainable waste management company, helping businesses reduce emissions and increase recycling rates. At the heart of Bywaters is its commitment to sustainability. The waste management company goes beyond its own environmental action and extends into working to improve the society in which we live. Its dedicated team of Green Gurus act as sustainability consultants for its clients, supporting them on their sustainability journey.

Bywaters also has a proactive approach to social responsibility, working and collaborating with charities and communities to help create a better world. From beach cleaning to helping provide free meals, the company continuously tries to increase its positive impact.

We were excited that our team could visit Bywaters’s facility to understand more about mixed recycling. Over 65,000 tonnes of material are processed each year and 95% of the materials are recovered for recycling. After a tour of the facility, we learned about ways to reduce our own personal impact and spent the rest of the day litter-picking in the local area.

From start to end, the day was fueled with energy, passion, and a sense of admiration for the collaborative climate action by Bywaters with the Planet Mark as well as an inspiring day celebrating achievements and looking into the lens of the next ten years of Planet Mark.
