Russell Building Products, the UK’s leading independent concrete roof tile manufacturer has achieved the Planet Mark certification. From emissions, waste and energy to packaging and delivery, Russell Building Products want to ensure that they are a force for good: positively transforming society and the planet by measuring our own impact on the environment.
Over the next year, the company will be working towards measuring and reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.
“At Russell Building Products we recognise the importance of building a credible path to Net Zero in support of the UK housebuilding industry, and wider government targets for reductions in emissions. We are targeting a Net Zero year in 2040 and have created a roadmap of how we intend to get there. We have achieved a 5.9% reduction in absolute carbon in our 2nd year with Planet Mark, and we are really enjoying the collaborative effort to raise awareness and drive our sustainability agenda.”
Through Planet Mark, Russell Building Products has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.
It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.
To recertify next year Russell Building Products must reduce emissions by 2.5%.
A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
