Bowmer + Kirkland
Certified since 2007
Bowmer + Kirkland is decarbonising construction-site emissions through battery technology for tower cranes and lifting services. By maximising the use of 100% battery technology across its crane fleet installations, the business is reducing diesel reliance and tackling a significant source of site emissions. The initiative goes beyond replacing a single power source, exploring how battery technology can support more activity across a site. It demonstrates how practical innovation can challenge established construction methods and accelerate the move towards lower-carbon building.
“Bowmer + Kirkland’s battery-powered crane project demonstrates a clear move away from diesel, delivering significant fuel savings and reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions.”
Hillier Nurseries
Certified since 2019
Hillier Nurseries has transformed long-term tree production by replacing a 40-year-old irrigation system with a research-led, precision approach to water management. Working with DEFRA, Myerscough College, Lancaster University and the Forestry Commission, three years of research informed a new network powered by winter water storage and an HVO-fuelled pumping system. The initiative has reduced water use by around 70% and fuel consumption by 89%, while strengthening climate resilience and sharing practical learning across the horticulture industry.
“The judges admired Hillier Nurseries’ combination of research, implementation and knowledge-sharing, delivering major reductions in water and fuel use with strong sector partners.”
