29% measured emissions reduction (market-based), 95% waste emissions reduction, 100% of waste recycled or composted, Best Company 2025.
Established in 2014 as a small pop-up store in Chelsea, Blooming Haus has grown to become one of London’s most iconic floral design studios, with key clients such as Vogue, Cartier and Raffles.
At first glance, floristry can seem fleeting – moments of beauty designed to be enjoyed before they fade. For Blooming Haus however, working with nature every day brings an awareness of the lasting impact of floral creations. Having first become a Planet Mark Certified Business in 2024 and going on to win Best Company at the 2025 Planet Mark Awards for a 29% reduction in overall market-based measured emissions, Blooming Haus has designed out floral foam, electrified its delivery fleet and now recycles or composts 100% of its waste.
Planet Mark certification – a measurement framework organisations trust
Embarking on a sustainability journey can be a daunting prospect. For many organisations there isn’t a clear, immediate roadmap, as Co-Founder and Sustainability Director Michael Dariane explains: “It can be difficult to decide what to focus on. We wanted a framework that told us what we should target, what we should be working towards, and that we’re going in the right direction.”
Blooming Haus had already started to explore ways to reduce their environmental impact before becoming a Planet Mark Member, but they knew they needed a partner that could provide a structured framework to support carbon emissions measurement and long-term progress.
By becoming a Planet Mark Certified Business, Blooming Haus has taken the best first step towards net zero and is committed to achieving an annual 5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, maintaining rigorous data quality standards to ensure accurate reporting and expanding their measurement boundary to measure up to a full carbon footprint.
Rather than focusing on one-off interventions, Michael explains that Blooming Haus was drawn to Planet Mark’s emphasis on year-on-year progress: “Planet Mark certification focuses on you getting better every year. Having Planet Mark as our partner has allowed us to focus on emissions reductions and continuous improvement.”
Waste and the power of partnerships
Gradual progress and building an understanding of sustainability across the team has been key for Blooming Haus. While they’ve introduced important measures such as a fully electric delivery fleet and a 100% renewable electricity powered studio, Michael explains that waste management and understanding what happens after materials have served their key purpose stood out as the best place to start their sustainability journey: “The trick is not to try to do everything at once. We started with waste, which was our biggest measured impact, and then worked towards other initiatives.”
Blooming Haus has multiple waste streams including green waste, plastic packaging and candles and wax waste. Rather than treating waste as a single issue, they’ve worked closely with a range of specialist partners to develop targeted solutions for each stream:
- Green waste is composted with partner Com:post, while petals and event flowers are collected, dried and repurposed into biodegradable confetti with partner Confetti Club.
- Plastic packaging used by suppliers to wrap and transport flowers, much of which cannot be recycled through standard UK systems, is sent to specialist facilities via Recorra, where it is repurposed into construction boards and building materials. Additional plastics, such as the LDPE plastic cling film used to wrap flower trolleys, are sent to partners Weez & Merl, where it is melted and turned into vases and decorative items. All bouquets created in the studio are wrapped in compostable cellophane and ribbon.
- Floral foam has been designed out entirely. Creative Director and Co-Founder Michal Kowalski calls the foam “one of the biggest challenges for every flower design studio” because of its plastic composition. Blooming Haus uses reusable containers and structures instead.
- Candles and wax waste from events are collected and remelted by partner Recycled Wax into new candles, instead of being sent to landfill.

The result: 100% of waste recycled or composted and a 95% decrease in waste emissions for the 2025 reporting year compared to the previous reporting period.
How Planet Mark certification complements B Corp
Planet Mark and B Corp certification play complementary roles in Blooming Haus’ sustainability journey. While B Corp offers a holistic view of social and environmental performance, Planet Mark provides robust carbon measurement and reporting.
As explained by Michael, Planet Mark has been instrumental in supporting Blooming Haus to streamline their B Corp submission: “When B Corp asks what we’re doing to measure and reduce our emissions, we present our Planet Mark Measurement Report. It’s made recertifying for B Corp more efficient because we have validated data.”
In this way, Planet Mark certification underpins trust, quality and credibility.

Supplier engagement – collective achievement
Blooming Haus are on Planet Mark’s Business Certification membership package and have not yet measured their full carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. Despite this, the floristry studio has already started to adapt the way they work with their suppliers and collect sustainability-related data. Engagement has been approached carefully and collaboration has been prioritised.
But what does this look like in practice?
- Avoid pointing fingers. Instead, frame sustainability as a joint effort. As highlighted by Michael, “Supplier engagement shouldn’t be approached by pointing fingers and saying, ‘Is what you’re giving me sustainable?’”
- Explain the why. Don’t assume suppliers understand your motivations. Take the time to explain why the information matters, whether for certification, internal targets, or customer expectations.
- Use recognised certifications to support conversations. Blooming Haus has used their Planet Mark certification to support supplier conversations and help communicate the commitments they have made.
Winners of the Best Company Award
Winning the Award reflects Blooming Haus’ 29% reduction in overall market-based measured emissions for the 2025 reporting year compared to the previous year, alongside their ambition to not just transform their company, but the whole floristry industry. This is encapsulated by Jonathan Thorneycroft, Creative Strategist, who says: “We always try to partner with other organisations and look at what’s within our community as this might lead to innovative carbon reduction initiatives.”
The recognition has created real momentum in Blooming Haus’ sustainability journey and validates that they’re on the right path. Next, the florist plans to expand their measurement boundary to measure a full carbon footprint, supporting deeper emissions reductions.

Sustainability as a driver of commercial opportunity: more clients, more collaboration, more partnerships
Aside from the clear environmental benefits, Michael states the importance of making your team aware of the commercial benefits of sustainability: “I don’t think we should be afraid of saying that sustainability helps with business, because it does. It helps to unlock commercial opportunity. There are a lot of clients and organisations out there that want to work with people who are doing this.”
This is reinforced by Events Manager Melissa Man, who notes that while luxury clients come to Blooming Haus for beautiful flowers, sustainability is becoming increasingly important: “With our luxury hospitality and corporate clients, we’re seeing that sustainability is starting to matter to them when choosing which organisations to work with.”
By sharing these benefits with your team, someone without a sustainability or environmental background can understand that sustainability truly empowers organisations to reduce their impact and unlock commercial opportunity.
