Certification story

Stoford Properties, one of the UK’s leading property specialists, a privately owned company established in 1996 to specialise in occupier-led property solutions, has achieved Planet Mark certification.

Buildings are a major source of carbon emissions in the developed world. Responsible for at least 20% of the UK’s carbon footprint, forward-thinking companies in the property industry have a huge opportunity in the form of a sustainable transition.

Stoford Properties’ approach to sustainability is to understand the needs of a particular project, and the context it sits within and then procures sustainable solutions by working hand in hand with its occupiers, landowners and investors.

As part of its wider sustainability strategy, Stoford Properties has invested in green energy by installing PV panels and battery storage in its own office. As a result, the company will be able to achieve a 25% reduction in energy purchased from the grid for powering our office.

When working with its local community, Stoford Properties believes that being more sustainable is not just about tangible solutions. It recognises operations can have an impact on local communities, and as such, it engages in several diverse ways, through both charitable donations and volunteering.

In 2021, the property specialists enhanced their commitment to protecting the environment by becoming a member of the UKGBC (UK Green Building Council). Its mission is to encourage its members to have a positive impact on reducing climate change, analysing resource use, enhancing nature and biodiversity, improving health and wellbeing and achieving a positive socio-economic impact.

Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“What a monumental achievement by everyone at Stoford Properties. The team has worked excellently to reduce its carbon footprint this year. Stoford’s clients and staff will rest well in the knowledge that Stoford is making action out of its sustainable ambition, and quickly cementing a reputation as a climate-minded property company. Well done to the whole team on such a great year of carbon reduction.”

Going beyond

Through Planet Mark, Stoford Properties has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

Future targets

Reduce carbon emissions by at least 2.5% each year

To recertify next year Stoford Properties must reduce emissions by 2.5%.

Aim to reduce carbon emissions by 5% each year

A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
