Certification story

Startle Music, a tech company providing music that puts companies in sync with their customers has achieved certification to Planet Mark.

This is Startle Music’s first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to The Planet Mark. They first calculated the carbon footprint of their Northampton and Columbus warehouses for the year ending December 2019 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually. Startle Music’s total carbon footprint for the year ending December 2019 was 60.5 tCO2e and the relative carbon footprint was 3.6 tCO2e per employee.

If Startle  achieve their carbon reduction goals this year, they will save the same amount of carbon as would be captured by nearly four acres of forest in one year.

Steve Malkin
Planet Mark
“Startle Music has heard the call for corporate sustainability and embraced it. By setting ambitious targets to reduce its carbon footprint, the company has made a statement on their long-term sustainability. Any company that recognises its role in helping to combat climate change is to be applauded – it takes honesty and determination to begin this journey. I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Startle, through which we can work together to create a sustainable business.”
Adam Castleton
Startle Music
“Earlier this year, we decided to make a Pledge to the Planet, including setting out initiatives to reduce our business’ carbon footprint and increase our positive contribution to the world. Achieving our Planet Mark certification has enabled us to get an accurate measure of our environmental performance and set ambitious targets to improve further over the next year. Businesses have a responsibility to take action towards tackling climate change, and we’re proud to show our commitment through our Planet Mark certification and demonstrate the initiatives we’re taking to grow our business in a sustainable way.”

Certification story

Startle Music cares deeply about the planet. The company is ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certified to ensure that they are continually assessing their environmental performance and reducing their impact on the environment. The company has also pledged to protect an acre of rainforest in South America to help combat climate change with conservation charity Cool Earth.

Business leaders continually rank climate change among the most important issues facing industry in the modern day. As businesses seek to measure and mitigate their impact on the planet, they increasingly turn to their supply chains for sustainable solutions. B2B companies must be reactive to this shift in business model. A strong sustainability policy is no longer purely about planetary wellness, it can be a useful asset in acquiring and retaining a business’ client base.

Future targets
