Certification story

Something Big, a creative communications agency with over 20 years of experience engaging employees, customers and communities has achieved Planet Mark certification.

Achieving Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

Over the next year, the communications agency will be working towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, it will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“Congratulations to Something Big on second year of Planet Mark certification. Climate action requires change and enormous scale. Creatives like Something Big have the power to enact change across the whole population through their work. But positive impact must start from within. By committing to continuous carbon emission reductions, Something Big has taken an important first step in changing their agency, and the world, for the better. Bravo to all involved.”
Sally Pritchett
CEO
Something Big
“Taking a journey with Planet Mark has been a really powerful part of our mission to step up to our sustainability responsibilities. It’s helped guide us through the areas we can make improvements to, as well as acknowledge our commitment. Protecting our planet isn’t something that you can do once and tick off the list, it’s a long term commitment to stay accountable. We’re in it for the long term and hope that we can encourage our clients and other businesses in our community to come on the journey, making business a genuine force for good.”

As part of their involvement with Planet Mark, Something Big has made a number of commitments beyond pledging to cut carbon year on year. The agency is protecting endangered rainforest in Peru through a collaboration with Cool Earth, and will be supporting the Eden Project to further education about the natural world. Something Big has also committed to communicating its sustainability policies and successes to its employees, and throughout its network of stakeholders.

Marketing and communications agencies have much to gain from embracing climate action. As we approach the deadlines for many planetary goals, businesses of all sectors are looking at ways of greening their operations and supply chains. A creative communications agency is impacted by this in two ways. First, a robust and clearly communicated sustainability policy can become part of an attractive offer for clients. Second, agencies can draw on personal expertise in embedding sustainability into clients’ communications efforts. A sustainable agency is not only better for the planet, but offers a more complete service to its client base, too.

Future targets
