PT Sasa Inti, a trusted food and seasoning FMCG company in Indonesia, has achieved Planet Mark certification.
This is PT Sasa Inti’s first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to The Planet Mark. They first calculated the carbon footprint of their Cikarang and Gending operational sites for the year ending December 2019 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
PT Sasa Inti’s total carbon footprint for the year ending December 2019 was 150,430.9 tCO2e and their relative carbon footprint was 132.7 tCO2e per employee.
PT Sasa Inti will save the carbon equivalent of 100 tanker trucks worth of gasoline if it is able to achieve its carbon reduction targets.
“I’m delighted to have PT Sasa Inti join Planet Mark. There are huge environmental wins to be had in the food industry and we need more pioneers like PT Sasa Inti to reap the benefits of acting against climate change. The team are eager to make positive change, both within the company and with its wider network of suppliers and stakeholders. It is really invigorating to work with people who are dedicated to finding the way to a sustainable business model. We hope to help PT Sasa Inti work towards this goal.”
PT Sasa Inti has several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities beyond its pledge to cut carbon emissions. These range from providing donations to local communities during festivities such as the Idul Adha holiday, to helping maintain agricultural infrastructures among its suppliers such as improving irrigation canals. Aid is distributed both directly through its CSR officers and indirectly, where it works together with various NGOs, government agencies, and community groups. The company has also pledged to protect an acre of rainforest with conservation charity and Planet Mark partner Cool Earth.
The world’s food systems are responsible for approximately 25% of the emissions contributing to climate change. To achieve the world’s climate targets, food manufacturers and suppliers must take the initiative to reduce carbon emissions throughout its supply chain. Change is coming, and those companies that are proactive in tackling their emissions will prove to be more resilient and prepared for the markets of the future.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, PT Sasa Inti has committed to make a year-on-year reduction.
