Readie Construction, specialists in the design and construction of speculative buildings in the industrial, logistics, retail and related sectors nationwide, have achieved Planet Mark certification.
Achieving Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.
Over the next year, the company will continue to work towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.
“I’m pleased to see the positive steps taken by Readie this year with the Planet Mark. Large cuts to its electricity usage are a great way to reduce carbon, and this is reflected in the efficiencies made throughout the year. The construction industry is ripe for innovative practice to help decarbonise rapidly, and I’m glad that Readie is making real progress in these areas.”
Readie Construction supports environmental sustainability in many ways beyond the commitment to measure and reduce its carbon footprint. As well as attaining ISO9901 and ISO14001 environmental accreditations, the company is a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, an organisation that promotes best practices around the local environment and site-based stakeholders. Readie is also a corporate supporter of the Kent Wildlife Trust, helping to protect wildlife and local ecosystems since 2008.
Companies working in the built environment are becoming increasingly conscious of our responsibility to rapidly reduce carbon emissions, and of the environmentally friendly principles that can help achieve carbon reduction targets. Forward thinking construction companies must stay ahead of the curve in order to respond to changing demand. This can be achieved through both constructing sustainable places and by demonstrating a company’s own environmental credentials. When combined they are a robust sustainability offering that can become a vital asset in client and talent acquisition.
To recertify next year Readie Construction must reduce emissions by 2.5%.
A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
