The Maintenance Supply Company (MSC), a family run company situated in a prime location adjacent to the M25 near London, has achieved Planet Mark certification.
This is The Maintenance Supply Company’s third year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Since certifying to Planet Mark, the company has set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
MSC’s total carbon footprint in the year ending December 2020 was 201.0 tCO2e, a reduction of 15%. The Maintenance Supply Company’s total carbon per employee in the year ending 2020 was 4.6 tCO2e, a reduction of 19.5%.
MSC’s carbon reduction is the same as preventing 89,000 miles from being driven in an average car.
“MSC has made great strides in sustainability over the past year. By reducing their carbon footprint, the impact on their customers, society, and the environment have all been improved. It is heart-warming to see the progress made by business, especially in such a taxing year. I can only hope that the excellent work continues into the future.”
The Maintenance Supply Company has made a number of other commitments to sustainability beyond an annual reduction in carbon footprint. The company offers a range of environmentally friendly, low-waste products for its customers. MSC also protects one acre of endangered rainforest through Cool Earth, a conservation charity.
Business to business suppliers has much to gain from embracing sustainable change. As well as being in a position to create positive environmental impacts throughout a supply chain, and as such make a difference well beyond the confines of their own business, suppliers of businesses will also stand to gain from an economic perspective. Boardrooms of all industries are looking for achievable solutions to their carbon footprints, so B2B companies must be able to offer a robust assessment of their own environmental credentials if they wish to remain competitive.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, MSC has committed to making a year-on-year reduction.
