Certification story

Low Carbon Europe (LCE), a group of experienced professionals supporting several public and private sector clients with engineering and energy initiatives as well as their organisational sustainability agenda, has achieved certification to Planet Mark.

This is LCE’s fifth year of business carbon footprint reporting. LCE first calculated the carbon footprint of their head office business operations and business travel for the year ending July 2016, and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.

This year’s total carbon footprint was 7.5 tCO2e, a decrease of 32.1% from the year ending 2019. The relative carbon footprint in the year ending July 2020 was 1.3 tCO2e per employee, a decrease of 11.3% compared to 2019.

Steve Malkin
CEO
Planet Mark
“This is a fantastic set of results from Low Carbon Europe. The team are dedicated and experienced professionals in sustainability, and so it should come as no surprise to see their passion for environmental change channelled into effective and impactful action. The team’s achievements in carbon reduction are something they can take to all of their clients and stakeholders. Low Carbon Europe walks the walk on sustainability, and I am proud to work with them at Planet Mark.”
Marco Romani
Senior Energy Consultant
Low Carbon Europe
“The fight against climate change and the path to decarbonisation are inextricably linked to LCE’s core business, which is to increase energy efficiency in order to reduce CO2 emissions, and make our clients’ businesses more sustainable. Our staff are constantly working to create shared value, combining the pursuit of UK’s climate ambitions with tangible sustainable actions and practices.”

Certification story

Marco added, “Since 2017, Planet Mark has become a key component to measure the environmental impacts of our business, as well as identify our progress in making our business operations more sustainable. As a result, we have become very keen on promoting the benefits of this scheme and many of our clients are now certified too.”

To meet its sustainability commitments in the future, LCE is planning many new initiatives. These include offering greener travel options, as well as engaging LCE’s landlord to promote energy and water efficiency on site for all building tenants and setting up a recycling scheme in the building.

Those working in sustainability have an additional pressure to demonstrate their own environmental credentials. They also have a dual motivation in measuring and reducing their own carbon footprint; first, to evidence their enthusiasm for sustainable practice, and second, to demonstrate the capacity to act upon climate change. Sustainability and energy consultancies must begin to act on the climate agenda and pioneer practices they hope to spread among their client base.

Future targets

Reduce carbon footprint by 5% annually

As part of the Planet Mark certification, Low Carbon Europe has committed to make a year-on-year reduction.
