Certification story

Stockport-based IN Accountancy are an owner-managed business, passionate about supporting fellow owner-managed businesses.

As an organisation, IN Accountancy have a goal and the drive to keep on doing better and looking at new ways of working – benefitting both their business and the planet.  IN Accountancy feel their Planet Mark certification is helping them go paperless, recycle better, being more responsible with what they buy as a business, and more carefully measure their utilities usage, it’s not a yearly box ticking exercise, they have seen that measuring their carbon footprint does make an operational difference.

Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“It’s great to hear that IN Accountancy are seeing real positive impacts and cost savings thanks to their actions to reduce carbon. It’s also encouraging to see they are engaged in educating their clients, internal and external stakeholders, and wider network on the changes they have implemented, spearheading the benefits this brings their clients and the wider industry. We look forward to working with you on this exciting journey.”
Sarah Harkness
Managing Director
IN Accountancy
“We chose Planet Mark as it was achievable, the guidance and starting points were helpful and no questions / suggestion was ever off limits. Everything was explained thoroughly and the support, guidance, materials and ideas given is second to none. It makes a difference and you can see it in the office and how, only after a few months, conscientious and forward thinking the staff now are around reducing the carbon footprint, the ideas they have and suggest.”

How has Planet Mark helped?

Through the rigorous process of achieving Planet Mark certification, IN Accountancy can challenge the norm, making larger investments in reducing carbon as well as initiating smaller improvements (that almost go un-noticed). The company are exploring solar panel options, electric cars and more efficient ways of working to reduce travel.

They feel that measuring the carbon footprint of their business operations, keeps them focused pro-actively on the little things that make a big difference, especially in the current climate of ever spiralling energy costs and fuel prices.

Going beyond

Through Planet Mark, IN Accountancy has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

Future targets

Reduce carbon emissions by at least 2.5% each year

To recertify next year IN Accountancy must reduce emissions by 2.5%.

Aim to reduce carbon emissions by 5% each year

A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
