Heirlooms Linens, manufacturers of bespoke linens at its workshops in West Sussex since 1984, has achieved Planet Mark certification.
This is Heirlooms Linen’s first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to Planet Mark. It has calculated the carbon footprint of its Bognor Regis site for the year ending September 2020 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
Heirloom Linen’s total carbon footprint for the year ending September 2020 was 48.0 tCO2e and the relative carbon footprint was 2.2 tCO2e per employee.
Heirlooms carbon reduction target is the same as preventing 6,000 miles being driven in an average car.
“There is an appetite among the population to buy sustainable products, and Heirlooms Linens has positioned itself as a leader in its industry with Planet Mark certification. Cementing years of work to create sustainable policies is commendable and the team has the right attitude to continue to do better by the planet. A concrete and ongoing commitment to reduce carbon not only demonstrates the company’s strength of foresight, it gives its customers peace of mind that they are not only buying great linens, but also responsible ones.”
Sustainability, social and environmental responsibility has been at the core of the business for more than 12 years and will continue to be throughout 2021. As well as committing to reducing its carbon footprint year-on-year, Heirlooms Linens is committed to engaging its network of stakeholders in sustainable change. The company has also committed to protecting one acre of endangered rainforest through a collaboration with the conservation charity and Planet Mark partner Cool Earth.
Businesses must embrace the planetary and market need to transition to sustainable products. Beyond the global shift towards low-carbon alternatives, the modern consumer is increasingly aware of the supply chain of the products they buy. From renewable energy used in production to sourcing ethical and responsible components, companies have an opportunity to create a sustainable story to their products that can benefit both the planet and profitability.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, Heirloom has committed to make a year-on-year reduction.
