Certification story

Goodman Logistics Developments (UK) Ltd, part of Goodman, an integrated commercial and industrial property group, has achieved Planet Mark certification.

At Goodman, sustainability is about long-term thinking and leadership. The company views sustainability as an approach that leads to positive economic, environmental and social outcomes for its business, its stakeholders and the world more broadly. Goodman has set ambitious goals such as using 100% renewable energy by 2025 and continues to increase its proportion of rooftop solar into its own electricity use each year.

The built environment is a major contributor to climate change across the world and contributes to 20% of CO2 emissions in the UK. Properties that are designed and managed smartly and with sustainability in mind are better prepared for tomorrow’s challenges, both in terms of cutting operational emissions, supporting customer requirements and creating healthier, more resilient buildings for the occupants. It is no surprise that such properties have higher occupancy rates. The property industry is primed for a sustainable revolution that can place business and the environment hand in hand.

Over the next year, it will continue reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

Steve Malkin
Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“Congratulations to Goodman on a decade of Planet Mark certification. Goodman is a pioneer of sustainable action, and despite many years of exceptional work, the company is only driving further on its agenda. Cutting carbon is not an easy feat, and gets harder the further into a sustainability programme a company gets. Goodman has compounded all of its action with another amazing year – and I applaud the team for their amazing commitment to climate action.”
Charles Crossland
Managing Director
Goodman Logistics Developments (UK) Ltd
“As a global property company, our role is to deliver a more sustainable future and one that leads to positive economic, environmental and social outcomes for our business, stakeholders and the planet. Our involvement with Planet Mark has helped us to assess and review our operational carbon footprint and make positive changes for our business as a whole. In 2020 we accelerated our commitments to be carbon neutral and use 100% renewable energy in our operations by 2025, and will continue to increase our targets, recognising the opportunities this brings.”

Going beyond

Through Planet Mark, Goodman Logistics has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

Future targets

Reduce carbon emissions by at least 2.5% each year

To recertify next year Goodman Logistics must reduce emissions by 2.5%.
