Certification story

Fooditude, a company founded in 2005 that offers contract catering services in London, has achieved Planet Mark certification.

This is Fooditude’s second year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to The Planet Mark. They first calculated the carbon footprint of their Ilderton operational site for the year ending June 2019 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.

Fooditude’s total carbon footprint for the year ending June 2020 was 167.8 tCO2e, a decrease of 30.4% from the year ending 2019. The relative carbon footprint was 0.0004 tCO2e per meal served, a decrease of 31.1% compared to the year ending 2019.

Fooditude’s carbon footprint saving is equal to the carbon absorbed by 94 acres of forest in one year.

Steve Malkin
CEO
Planet Mark
“Fooditude is a company that is doing things the right way. The results from this year are sublime, and send a real message to Fooditude’s customers, and others in the industry: sustainable change is possible with the right attitude and application. Their success stems from the team’s drive to take a wholesale view of sustainability, from the way their food is sourced right through to the way its packaging is disposed by the customer. It has been a pleasure to be a part of their sustainability journey this year and I look forward to seeing more successful results in the future.”

Certification story

Fooditude believes in treading lightly on the earth and giving back to our community. It has robust policies on sourcing a wide range of its food supply, with efforts made to source local, seasonal and organic produce wherever possible. The company works on sustainable food waste management through reducing waste in all parts of its supply chain, and working with food sharing platforms such as FoodCycle, OLIO and Orca. The company also makes efforts to reduce its packaging, energy and water usage throughout its supply chain.

Our food system plays a huge role in society’s carbon emissions. Moreover, the food we eat has been identified as a key way in which individual consumers can change their carbon emissions for the better. From changes in diet to plastic pollution, several high-profile issues can be tackled by sustainable companies in the sector. As consumer’s attitudes change, food suppliers and retailers must be proactive in reassuring existing and new clients of their sustainability.

Future targets
