Equip4work, an online and mail order B2B retailer of commercial products, has achieved Planet Mark certification for the fifth consecutive year.
Equip4work’s total carbon footprint in year ending March 2019 was 100.7 tCO2e, a decrease of 20.6% from the year ending 2018. The relative carbon footprint was 1.63 tCO2e per employee, a decrease of 29.2% compared to the year ending 2018. This has saved the equivalent carbon of 17 return flights from London to New York.
This is Equip4work’s fifth year of business carbon footprint reporting. Equip4work first calculated the carbon footprint of its Dumfries office and fleet for the year ending March 2015. This year’s footprint includes emissions from energy use (natural gas and purchased electricity), waste, fuel used by the fleet, rail travel and paper used at both their Dumfries office and the Stafford warehouse, with the latter being occupied in December 2016. Paper emissions dropped by an impressive 95% over the measured period, accounting for much of the carbon decrease.
“This has been an encouraging year of carbon footprint reporting for Equip4work. Cutting the carbon from their travel and paper procurement significantly shows how simple policies can have real impacts on emissions. Working with a range of businesses across the country, Equip4work are in a strong position to influence their network and spread their positive work widely. I look forward to them building on this year’s fantastic results.”

The retail industry must be at the centre of a sustainable transition. They are in a strong position to make decisions that can have wide-reaching impacts and have the potential to create more sustainable options for society. Consumers are increasingly concerned about choosing an ethical supply chain, and retailers must be willing to react. Ensuring businesses are effectively supplied with their everyday needs in a sustainable manner represents an opportunity to both embed environmentally responsible practice and engage a community of committed stakeholders in better practice.
