Delta-Simons Environmental Consultants, a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy specialising in sustainability services, has achieved the Planet Mark certification.
This is Delta-Simons’ first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to The Planet Mark. They have calculated the carbon footprint of their sites for the year ending December 2019. Delta-Simons’ location-based carbon footprint for the year ending December 2019 was 284.0 tCO2e and the relative carbon footprint was 2.1 tCO2e per employee.
If Delta-Simons achieves their carbon reduction targets they will save the same amount of carbon as 18 acres of forest would capture in a year.
Delta-Simons also measured its Social Value, achieving a contribution for the year ending 2019 of £3,668,710. To calculate this, 19 Social Value measures were reported on with the top three contributors being employing local staff, having a local supply chain and procuring from local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“It is a pleasure to welcome Delta-Simons to Planet Mark. As experts in environmental consultancy, being able to measure and reduce the company’s own carbon footprint is an important step that shows real ambition in making the world more sustainable. We need more companies to lead by example and recognise the many benefits to a thorough sustainability policy. I’m pleased to see the team at Delta-Simons have made so many progressive changes to their working systems already, and I eagerly await the results of their hard work.”
“As an environmental consultancy, we recognise our role to lead by example on sustainability. Every year we take a progressive approach to collect better data, improve business efficiency, take action on specific environmental projects and engage with our teams, our clients and our communities. We’ve made a series of changes and investments to switch to zero carbon energy and change our travel patterns, all of which has allowed us to reduce our carbon KPIs for the last five consecutive years. Verification by Planet Mark is great – but more than that – it provides a community of like-minded companies for us to engage with and share experiences, ideas and a passion to make positive change.”
Sustainability is at the core of Delta-Simons’ business. They have made pledges on eight of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, ranging from climate action goals, both internally and with their stakeholders, to assisting in the creation of sustainable cities and communities. The company is also a founder of the Inogen Alliance, a global corporation providing multi-national organisations with consistent, high quality and cost effective environmental, health, safety, energy and sustainability solutions.
It is crucial that companies in the sustainability industry can demonstrate their own environmental credentials. As businesses push to become more sophisticated in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact, they will begin to look to their supply chains for low-carbon suppliers. Sustainability consultants have a dual motivation in carbon measurement, as they also need to evidence their enthusiasm for, and ability to act upon, climate change.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, Delta Simons has committed to make a year-on-year reduction.
