DD Products and Services, a full-service dental dealer, has achieved certification to Planet Mark.
This is DD Products and Services first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to Planet Mark. It has calculated the carbon footprint of its Witham, Blackpool, Stirling and Mulholland sites for the year ending March 2020.
DD Products and Services’ total carbon footprint for the year ending March 2020 was 1178.3 tCO2e and the relative carbon footprint was 1.8 tCO2e per employee.
If DD Products and Services achieves its emissions reductions target, it will save the same amount of carbon as burning 136 barrels of oil would emit.
DD Products and Services’ also measured its Social Value contribution in the year ending 2020. Its contribution was £26,697.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome DD Products and Services to Planet Mark community. There are great environmental gains to be made in the dental sector, and DD Group is ahead of the curve in the way it approaches its impact on the world. The team’s efforts will put them in a great position for future growth, both from a sustainability and business perspective. I applaud DD Group’s initiative and look forward to our partnership blossoming.”
“I am proud of the caring culture DD Group has developed to protect the natural environment as part of our CSR objectives, and Planet Mark only adds to that. We pride ourselves on bringing innovative solutions to the challenges climate change presents, from our work recycling in our site in Ireland to our packaging solutions. I’m pleased to commit to reducing our carbon footprint going forward.”
Beyond the commitment to continually reduce its environmental impact, DD has several initiatives to help protect the environment. Its site in Ireland has a recycled wood pellet heating system that supports the office areas and the operational buildings. The group has introduced also system algorithms that calculate the size of outer packaging for the number of products ordered, resulting in no more big boxes with small products. Furthermore, all insulated packaging is recyclable and compostable for the shipping of temperature-controlled products, and it has committed to low-energy solutions in all of its offices.
Dental services alone make up 3% of the overall carbon footprint of the NHS. Dental procurement is a huge factor in this emissions total. A sustainable transition requires dentists and procurers alike to apply dental carbon footprint data and the linking of carbon data to cost-benefit analysis of treatments to create an efficient and effective dental system that is ready for a low-carbon world.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, DD Products and Services has committed to making a year-on-year reduction.
