Steve Malkin
CEO
Planet Mark
“Childbase has made some fantastic progress this year, and I cannot say I’m surprised. The commitment shown, be it through engaging the supply chain or educating children about climate change, shows the level of dedication to taking genuine climate action. There is a sense of willpower in the organisation that anything is possible and I hope this serves as an example to all of those in the education sector.”

Certification story

Certification is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

Childbase Partnership’s Head Office is based in Newport Pagnell and it operates 42 sites across mainly central England. Childbase Partnership is committed to providing sustainable and socially responsible environments within all of its nurseries and this commitment starts at an early age. At present, Childbase take part in both Food for Life Serve Here and Eco-Schools programmes which enhance both education in the environment and environmental issues as well as using produce that comes from sustainable sources. The company has also diverted 98.3% of its main waste streams from landfill in 2019.

Education can and must act sustainably if we are to achieve our carbon targets. From empowering chidlren, raising environmental awareness and improving the physical environment of the education environments, acting on climate change can have positive impacts throughout the community.

Future targets

Reach net zero carbon by 2030

Through the Planet Mark Zeroby30 programme, Childbase has committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2030.

How Planet Mark has helped

Planet Mark created and implemented a roadmap of zero carbon solutions

Through Planet Mark’s ZeroBy30 programme, Childbase has set absolute reduction goals to reach net zero carbon by 2030. Planet Mark has worked closely with Childbase to reduce their scope 1 and 2 direct emissions to zero carbon, and scope 3 indirect emissions to as close to zero as possible and then offset the remaining carbon to exceptional schemes.
