Capital Support Services, a provider of professionally tailored services to the facilities management sector has achieved the Planet Mark certification. This is Capital Support Services’ first year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Since certifying Planet Mark, the company has set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
Capital Support Services’ total carbon footprint in the year ending March 2021 was 4.6 tCO2e. Capital Support Services’ total carbon per employee in the year ending 2020 was 1.5 tCO2e.
Understanding and measuring its carbon footprint is the first step in identifying ways to minimise its impact on the planet. Over the next year, the company will be working towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, Capital Support Services will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

Through Planet Mark, the company has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru. It is also helping the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.
Companies working in facilities services can gain a lot through sustainable action. As conduits for clean operations in other businesses and organisations, sustainable facilities management companies can have far-reaching impacts beyond their own operations. But more importantly, as businesses become increasingly aware of supply chain sustainability, facilities management companies will be one of the first suppliers engaged in providing environmental solutions. Being ahead of the game will be vital for securing and retaining customs.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, Capital Support Services has committed to making a year-on-year reduction.
