Bodega Bay, producers of a range of low calorie sparkling alcoholic drinks at 4% ABV including two distinctive, quintessentially British premium flavours, has achieved Planet Mark certification.
This is Bodega Bay’s second year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to Planet Mark. It first calculated the carbon footprint of its UK operations for the year ending December 2020 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually. Bodega Bay’s total carbon footprint for the year ending December 2021 was 8.8 tCO2e and the relative carbon footprint was 2.2 tCO2e per one thousand cans produced.
“Bodega Bay is making a statement. Our food system is under tremendous pressure, and we need companies like Bodega Bay to lead the way in transforming this system into one of sustainability and allows consumers peace of mind when drinking their products. The company is committed to doing things right, making ambitious statements on social and environmental accountability. The Planet Mark team look forward to helping Bodega Bay achieve its goals.”
“As a producer of the Premium Hard Seltzer we believe we owe it to our customers, investors and the planet to operate with a greater purpose than the age-old belief that businesses exist to solely create greater shareholder value. Planet Mark has helped us quantify our carbon impact and isolate opportunities to reduce these to a point where we can become carbon negative. As someone smarter than I once said: the only difference between a dream and a goal is that a goal is a dream with a time limit and clear criteria for success – Planet Mark have given us measurable goals which can steer us to becoming a positive impact on our planet.”
Bodega Bay has undertaken several initiatives beyond its commitment to cutting carbon, with an aim to create a global economy that uses business as a force for good. The company is in the process of becoming a certified B Corp, awarded to businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Through a Planet Mark partnership with Cool Earth, Bodega Bay has also pledged to protect one acre of rainforest in South America.
Our food systems have received pressure from consumers to become more sustainable. These public debates go beyond conversations on meat and dairy to the wider impacts of the food we eat on our planet. All businesses in the food and beverage industry must respond to this new type of demand – accounting for emissions and resource use of all kinds, throughout all their business processes. A rigorous and ambitious climate action strategy is necessary for both the health of our planet and of a business.
Reduce carbon footprint by 5% annually
