Believe Direct, one of the world’s leading digital music companies, helping artists and labels build their audiences and careers, has achieved Planet Mark certification.
Achieving the Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.
Believe Direct has made a number of environmental commitments beyond reducing its carbon footprint year-on-year. The company has protected endangered rainforest through Planet Mark’s partnership with conservation charity Cool Earth. Believe Direct has also committed to engaging its network of stakeholders in matters of sustainable change.
Over the next year, the company will continue reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.
“Musicians, and the music industry, have been at the forefront of so many social movements – and the climate movement is no different. Believe Direct is putting action behind these words, committing to measure and reduce its carbon every year. Only through bold and scientific action will we see the change necessary to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Believe Direct has become part of the solution.”
The music industry must join other industries in taking climate action. Beyond managing its own carbon footprint, the industry should recognise its capacity to create change among society as a whole. Messages of planetary care can only be believed if they are supported by recognisable action. Starting from artists, climate action must extend right through the industry’s supply chain.
To recertify next year Believe must reduce emissions by 2.5%.
A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
