Certification story

Beever and Struthers is a National award-winning firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors. The company has been providing accountancy and financial advice to clients for over 100 years.

Beever and Struthers, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors with offices in Manchester, Blackburn, Birmingham, and London, have achieved Planet Mark Business Certification for the third year.

Working across a variety of sector specialisms including , social housing, charity, education, property and construction and manufacturing and engineering, Beever and Struthers provides accountancy and financial advice to clients but is also committed to reducing its carbon footprint and achieving net zero by 2050.

Beever and Struthers states that its biggest carbon challenge involves travelling to clients, but due to meetings moving online indefinitely when the pandemic hit, this has now been reduced by 75%. In the past year the firm has reduced its carbon footprint by 25.8%, with a 33.9% reduction in carbon reduction per employee. In order to reduce carbon emissions caused by commuting, the firm offers its staff a mileage car-sharing policy, a cycle-to-work scheme and its new Manchester office does not have a car park to support the city in its target of halving emissions by 2025.

Educating and engaging staff is at the heart of Beever and Struthers’ sustainability strategy. Its Carbon Literary courses have helped colleagues become aware of the firm’s Planet Mark Certification, climate change science, and the impact that every individual can have in the fight to halt the climate crisis.

The firm has embedded staff engagement as well as Planet Mark’s ‘Do More Good’ philosophy into its lunch and learn programme by educating staff on the importance of certification and donating the cost of a drink and lunch to a food bank for every person that attends.

By measuring and reducing its carbon footprint, it is directly and measurably contributing to 9 SDGs.

Geraldine Finn
Marketing & Business Development Director
Beever and Struthers
“Sustainability is the backbone of everything we do and measuring our carbon footprint with Planet Mark has made us think about the impact of our actions. As we are a national firm with our head office and hear in Manchester, it’s really important that we are supporting Manchester and its targets.” Measuring some core elements of our Scope 3 emissions helped us to consider our environmental and social governance and how we could only make a difference if our staff were engaged and we had their support. We are not afraid to be brave and bold and get our staff on board with our journey and adapt to change.”

How has Planet Mark Helped?
