Certification story

Since 1988, Acumed has remained focused on the founders’ original vision of providing innovative solutions to meet the needs of the whole healthcare community, including hospitals, surgeons and patients.

The culture at Acumed puts a tremendous amount of emphasis on ethical business practices, its stewardship of resources and support for global humanitarian efforts. In 2010, Acumed founded an internal Social Responsibility Committee to ensure activities throughout the company have the support and resources needed to achieve positive results. To care for the environment the company has prioritised eco-friendly landscaping, weather-smart irrigation controls and efforts to maintain a healthy atmosphere both inside and outside its facilities.

Over the next few years, it will continue to work towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.

The company has also measured its social value contributions which amounted to £5,136. This refers to the net social and environmental benefits generated by its team. Measuring its social value gives a holistic insight into its positive contributions to not only the environment but also to society, demonstrating its commitment to meaningfully contribute to a better planet for all.

Founder and CEO
Planet Mark
“Climate change can feel like an insurmountable problem, but we can only make progress if more companies act like Acumed. We need businesses to commit to firm, measurable action and always strive to do better with their carbon footprints. Acumed has realised that it can change the way it does business for the better. Congratulations to the whole team on making a commitment to embark on an ambitious journey.”

Going beyond

Through Planet Mark, the company is protecting an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

It is also helping the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

Future targets

Reduce carbon emissions by at least 2.5% each year

To recertify next year Acumed must reduce emissions by 2.5%.

Aim to reduce carbon emissions by 5% each year

A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
