Net Zero Certification Programme – FAQs
How does the Net Zero Certification Programme work?
The Net Zero Certification Programme is an annual membership solution for organisations committed to achieving net zero by 2050 or sooner.
It guides you through a structured process, which includes measuring your carbon footprint, supporting you to set science-backed targets, creating a bespoke Net Zero Transition Plan, and implementing decarbonisation solutions in line with your goals.

Which membership packages are available?
The Net Zero Certification Programme includes five membership packages, designed to guide you through four certified milestones.
The five membership packages are as follows:
Business Certification
The first certified milestone on your journey is Planet Mark Certified – Business. With the Business Certification membership package, we will support you to measure your Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions.
For organisations looking to improve their carbon data reporting, our Business Certification (Advanced) membership package is designed to measure your full carbon footprint including all Scope 3 categories. At this point you will then have your net zero baseline.
Net Zero Committed Certification
Once you have your net zero baseline, we will support you to set realistic but ambitious near-term and long-term net zero targets and develop a Net Zero Transition Plan.
Net Zero Aligned Certification
Next we’ll support you in making demonstrable progress towards net zero by completing a series of actions listed in your Net Zero Transition Plan to reach your near-term targets.
Net Zero Achieved Certification
Having achieved your near-term targets, our expert team will guide you in achieving the long-term target set out in your Net Zero Transition Plan.
Which industries is the Net Zero Certification Programme suitable for?
The Net Zero Certification Programme is designed to make net zero accessible to every organisation and sector.
We have deep expertise across major sectors like law, finance, and the built environment, with an in-depth understanding of the challenges they face, the reporting requirements they need to meet, and the decarbonisation solutions available to them.

How will Planet Mark measure our carbon footprint?
For instance, we’ll help to identify where your organisation generates Scopes 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions – e.g. through gas and electricity usage, business travel, fleet-related emissions, and so on.
We’ll also give you access to your own Data Platform, so that you can submit the carbon emissions data for each of these sources in one, easy-to-view place.
You won’t need to submit all your carbon emissions data at once. We use a phased approach to measuring your carbon footprint, so that we can keep the process as simple as possible.
Does Planet Mark have a carbon measurement platform?
Yes! When you join the Net Zero Certification Programme, you’ll get access to the Planet Mark Data Platform, customised to your organisation’s size, goals, and journey stage.
You can use the platform to submit your data and track your progress to net zero, with bespoke advice from our measurement experts just a phone call away.
Do you produce carbon footprint reports?
Once you have submitted the data required by your membership package, we will produce a measurement report to help you understand your organisation’s carbon footprint.
We will also guide you through the report, helping to identify carbon hotspots and opportunities for reducing your emissions.
Which frameworks does Planet Mark align with?
Our Net Zero Certification Programme is officially recognised by the UNFCCC as a Cooperative Climate Initiative and is aligned with the principles of the Science Based Targets initiative Corporate Net Zero Standard. Planet Mark’s measurement methodology is fully aligned to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and all data is verified with evidence provided by the Member.
